The default Minecraft skin is one of the most commonly used features of the launcher. These skins are offered as replacements for the game’s default ones—that is, skins that are often disliked due to their basic, unoriginal, and unrepresentative appearance.
How to apply a Minecraft skin – Java EditionTo set a skin in Minecraft, you first need the skin itself. One of the most popular websites to get skins is PlanetMinecraft.com—download the skin you like from there.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Click the “New Skin” button.
- A window will open. First, give your skin a name (for example, “My Awesome Skin”).
- Then choose the model type:
- Classic (Steve model, with wide arms), or
- Slim (Alex model, with thinner arms).
It’s important to choose the model that matches your skin’s .png file so it displays correctly.
- Click “Browse” to locate the .png skin file on your computer. Minecraft skins are flat images in .png format.
- Once selected, click “Save & Use”. This will save the skin in your launcher and apply it immediately.
- Launch Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
- Select “Dressing Room.”
- Choose a character slot or create a new one.
- Select “Classic Skins” on the left side.
- Click “Choose New Skin.” This will open your file explorer.
- Find and select your custom .png skin file.
- Choose the model:
- Alex (slim arms), or
- Steve (wide arms),
matching your skin’s design.
- Click “Equip.”
